'Destroyer' Trailer: Nicole Kidman gets made-up for this cop thriller

Destroyer

It’s no secret that we didn’t particularly care for Karyn Kusama’s Destroyer when we saw it at TIFF back in September. It was truly a shame, given that we really wanted it to be good — we love most of Kusama’s other work (including Jennifer’s Body) but we were let down by a combination of bad storytelling and even worse make-up, as seen in our featured image. But, as with everything, your milage may vary, and Annapurna Pictures dropped a trailer for the film on Wednesday for your viewing pleasure. It’s not a great trailer, but then again, why try and sell something compelling to people when you know this ain’t great?
Take a look:

Aside from featuring a solid 45 seconds of the movie’s last five minutes (goddamn it is the worst when studios do this), this is a pretty solid glimpse of what you’ll get when you buy a ticket to see this. You’ll get some pretty silly action, you’ll get a pretty ridiculous Nicole Kidman performance when she’s in that old-age garb, and you’ll be hopefully entertained by all of it. Well, unless you’re Megan Ellison, and then you’re really hoping that every audience member takes ten friends to see this because setting a shitload of money on fire is exactly the opposite of what you want to be doing right now.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“‘Destroyer’ follows the moral and existential odyssey of LAPD detective Erin Bell who, as a young cop, was placed undercover with a gang in the California desert with tragic results. When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.”
Destroyer hits theaters on Christmas.
