Friends, welcome to Easter week, or as it’s known in the film business this year, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie mayhem.” If you’re wondering why the two-or three-week drip hasn’t happened like usual, blame the fact that Mario and his buddies hit theaters on Wednesday as opposed to Friday — nobody, marketing people included, wants to work on the weekends.
Alas, we’re getting pelted with big-news trailers, including this new one for Travis Knight’s Masters of the Universe, which features the Laika stalwart moving from Hasbro to Mattel for this toy-line adaptation. Honestly, we’re just stunned this one got off the ground, given that a new He-Man movie has been talked about for nearly 20 years and went through a dozen different writers and stars before Nicholas Galitzine and Jared Leto were hired to take over from Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella.
We’ll save our sarcasm and just say that this looks, well, pretty accurate to the revitalized version of the toy line from the ’00s — there aren’t enough steroids in the world to give someone the physique required to match the figures’ ’80s-era bulk. Anyway, Amazon dropped a trailer for the blockbuster just in time for you to stuff your Easter basket, so enjoy it!
Peep it:
Whoops! Here it is:
Here’s a synopsis for Masters of the Universe:
“After being separated for 15 years, the Sword of Power leads Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine) back to Eternia where he discovers his home shattered under the fiendish rule of Skeletor (Jared Leto). To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela (Camila Mendes) and Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), and embrace his true destiny as He-Man — the most powerful man in the universe.”
Masters of the Universe hits theaters on June 5. Start agitating for that Thundercats movie right now, nerds.
