Nicholas Hoult schools you in the ‘How to Rob a Bank’ trailer

How to Rob a Bank

On one level, we have to give it to David Leitch: his latest feature, How to Rob a Bank, looks pretty good. It’s got a swell cast (anything with the combined wattage of Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, and John C. Reilly has our attention), a decent conceit about bank-robbing social media stars, and a keen sense of humor. On another level, we have to applaud him: the title is funny as hell. Now, that might seem like a stretch — and it is — but stick with us for a second before you go and watch the trailer that Amazon dropped on Tuesday.

So, imagine you’ve planned the perfect heist. You’re a professional thief, so you’re on the cops’ radar, but you go through with it and walk out with one incredible score. Millions of dollars, all for you and your crew. You guys decide to celebrate, and a movie seems inconspicuous enough, more so than dropping fat stacks at a strip club or a casino. You let your boy Jimmy Two-Shirts (he wears two shirts for a quick getaway) choose the picture. He Googles “How to Rob a Bank.” This becomes the decisive evidence in the state’s case against you, no matter if he followed it up with “How to Rob a Bank showtimes.” David Leitch has, in part, sent you to prison.

So, be careful when googling this one.

Anyway, take a look:

Here’s a synopsis for How to Rob a Bank:

“In ‘How to Rob a Bank,’ a crew of social media-savvy bank robbers broadcasts their daring heists, unaware that their growing viral fame has put them in the crosshairs of a veteran FBI agent and a brilliant software engineer. Despite the unlikely duo closing in, the crime ring pushes past their limits, putting everything on the line for their beliefs — and their most ambitious heist yet.”

How to Rob a Bank hits theaters on September 4.
