He’s taken on the form of a “Baby,” and has enjoyed his time as a “Kid” on more than one occasion. Now, John Mulaney is making his way back to the stand-up stage with a new show that not only will offer an evolution in his approach to comedy, but will also have you calling him “Mister.”
As announced earlier this week, the superstar comedian will make his way back to Boston later this year as part of his upcoming Mister Whatever tour, which sets up shop at Boch Center for two nights on September 25 and 26, adding to Mulaney’s long list of venues he’s performed at around the city over the course of his career. It will also mark the Chicago native’s first time back in the city since 2023, when he recorded his latest Netflix special, Baby J, at Symphony Hall.
Although he has, of course, continued his ascension in the stand-up realm and cemented his place as one of the most innovative and sought-after writers and performers in the game, Mulaney has also kicked the door down as he’s made his way into the talk show world with the smash-hit weekly Netflix show, Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney, after introducing the platform as part of last year’s Netflix is a Joke Fest.
Sam Morril makes his triumphant return to Boston on August 7, taking the stage at The Wilbur as part of his ongoing Errors tour. The one-night summer fling will mark Morril’s first trip back to Tremont Street since 2023, in which he sold out nine shows over the course of multiple nights in the midst of recording what he became his most recent one-hour special, You’ve Changed, which premiered on Amazon Prime video last summer. In addition to continuing to crush on stages all over the country, Morril has also carried on with his duties as host of the hit podcast, We Might Be Drunk, alongside fellow comedian Mark Normand, with whom Morril has also maintained a presence in the whiskey game, having curated Bodega Cat rye whiskey since 2021.
As the old saying goes, “It’s just not the Christmas season without Jim Norton.” Luckily, the famed comedian, radio host and author will be making his way back to The Wilbur on December 20 with a brand new show, Now You Know. While the last we saw of him in terms of recorded material came in the form of his 2017 special, Mouthful of Shame, Norton has continued to engrain himself in the fabric of modern comedy, anchoring stand-up shows all over the country when he isn’t taking calls and helping listeners figure out their own issues on his podcast, Jim Norton Can’t Save You.
Over at Chevalier Theatre, Ben Schwartz is making his return to the area a habit we can get behind with one night in Medford on November 21. While most of Schwartz’ star power has catapulted him into new film projects every year, his Ben Schwartz & Friends improv shows has proven to be some of the most creatively intriguing live shows in the comedy realm over the course of the last few years.
Tickets for these shows can be accessed now via venue presale by using the code VANYA. General on-sale starts on Friday (April 25) at 10 a.m. ET.
