Editor’s Note: With a brand new year comes new shows, new faces, and a new format for Vanyaland’s recurring weekly live comedy rundown, Mic’d Up. We’ll be hyping club shows, theater and arena gigs, open mics, and whatever else to help fill your free time with some much-needed laughter.

He may just play a gym teacher on TV, but this week, Sean Patton is making his way back to the area to let us know that class is in session once again.

With a doubleheader on tap, the highly-regarded comedy vet is making his way to Goof’s Comedy Club in Somerville on Thursday (January 23) to headline the club’s acclaimed and recurring Detention show series. Of course, the gears are constantly turning for Patton, so he will be well equipped with new jokes and stories following the release of his most recent special, Number One, which landed on Peacock in 2022.

Although he hasn’t churned out a new special in two years, it’s for good reason, as he’s spent the bulk of his creative energy since then remaining on the road with David Cross, as well as gracing our TV screens as gym teacher Markie Hillridge on the hit FX comedy series English Teacher

As a man of many different creative hats, it’s surely always a treat to have Patton back in town — and in the birthplace of the Fluffernutter, no less.

SEAN PATTON :: Thursday, January 23 at Goof’s Comedy Club, 432 McGrath Highway in Somerville, MA :: 8 and 10 p.m., $25 to $52 :: Advance tickets
