Katch the bloody new trailer for ‘Mortal Kombat II’

Mortal Kombat II
Warner Bros

GET OVER HERE, nerds, because it’s almost time for Simon McQuoid’s Mortal Kombat II, which was so rudely delayed out of last year after giving us our first glimpse at Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage in action. On the other hand, that’s a sign of Warner Bros’ konfidence in the film — if you kan remember, back in 2021, the first feature was one of the few pandemic-era successes at the box office. It was a fun, goofy time at home (or, if you lived in a place where one kould actually go to a movie theater without getting sick, at the theater), best enjoyed with strong libations and intoxicating fumes. Now, you get all of the benefits of the full theatrical experience, listening to throughly-stoned gamers try to ghost hit their THC pens before koughing up a lung when Scorpion rips some dude’s skull and spine out of his khest.

Anyway, gags aside, we’re pretty pumped for this one, especially with the likes of Joe Talism and Hiroyuki Sanada returning, as well as whatever ridiculous shit Urban gets up to in a role that feels tailor-made for the true MVP of nerd franchises. Bones, Judge Dredd, Eomer, Skurge — and in case you missed it, he was in a Star War — and now Johnny Cage. All he has to do is play a DC Superhero and he’s got the kareer grand slam.

Peep it:

Here’s a synopsis for Mortal Kombat II:

“From New Line Cinema comes the latest high-stakes installment in the blockbuster video game franchise in all its brutal glory, ‘Mortal Kombat II.’ This time, the fan favorite champions—now joined by Johnny Cage himself—are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.”
