Editor’s Note: As the dogs days of summer get further away in the rearview, and the crisp, creeping wind of fall sneaks in overnight, it’s time to start thinking about bringing things back indoors to stay warm and entertained to stave off the insanity of the upcoming darker, colder months in New England. That’s where comedy can help you out, and boy oh boy, do we have a ton of it coming through town every week. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. To help you make sense of all of the wonderful options, enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below, find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (September 15).
Randy Feltface at The Wilbur
The poetic purple puppet has brought a lot with him during his past visits to Boston, but this time – a banana? Seems oddly intriguing, which has become the penchant of Randy Feltface with every new show he works out, so it’s a near guarantee that this dose of comedic potassium is going to be a night to remember.

Kenny Gray‘s “Kenny Goes To Sleep” at The Rockwell

Ben Schwartz & Friends at Chevalier Theatre
We never know what Ben Schwartz is bringing with him when he comes to town, except some of his best improv pals, but we still can’t wait to see it. In what is becoming an annual habit, catch the Sonic The Hedgehog and Parks and Recreation star do what he does best on stage, where what lies ahead is as much of our surprise as it is his, but will ultimately result in a night full of twists, turns, and deep gut-busting laughter.
BEN SCHWARTZ & FRIENDS :: Friday, September 13 at The Chevalier Theatre, 30 Forest St. in Medford, MA :: 7:30 p.m., 49.50 to $99.50 :: Advance tickets
Eugene Mirman & his Pretty Good Friends at Crystal Ballroom
Good friends are hard to come by, and pretty good ones are entirely too rare — but Eugene Mirman has quite a few of them, and he’s bringing some back home for a hell of a night of comedy in Davis Square. Join the Bob’s Burgers star as he takes the stage for two shows alongside Ophira Eisenberg and Zach Zimmerman during what is, on paper, one of the best comedy shows you’ll see in town all year.
EUGENE MIRMAN & HIS PRETTY GOOD FRIENDS :: Saturday, September 14 at Crystal Ballroom, 55 Davis Square in Somerville, MA : 6:45 p.m., all ages, $25 :: Advance tickets
