Avenue brings collaborators from the sidelines to the stage in ‘Offsides’

On Avenue’s block, the collaboration never ends. As fans and newcomers saw at Boston Calling’s Tivoli Orange Stage in May, the Roxbury-raised rapper thrives when he’s passing the mic among his closest confidants, using each diverse voice and verse as a springboard. With his new track “Offsides” (released November 2), Avenue brings that synergy to the studio to help him — and his featured artists — branch into new creative territory.

“Offsides is a continuation of energy,” Avenue tells Vanyaland. “[I’ve] been hosting these ‘Words Speak Life’ Sunday sessions and focusing on mixing vibes, [and] sounds, but at the same time, being competitive. I want to continue to create a creative space, where everyone just makes each other better. ‘Offsides’ is a result of that.”

Through the end of the year, Avenue will share tracks from these sessions every Wednesday, starting with “Offsides,” his creation alongside Hil Holla and Chase N. Cash.

“Every time I’m in the studio with Hil, I know not only do I have to be witty, but I have [to] blend the fly vibrant talk with it as well,” he adds. “Knowing Chase N. Cashe’s résumé and accomplishments alone causes me to approach the session we’ve been having with a different energy. This is just one of many.”
