Fans who know where to look can spot a slice of Andover, Massachusetts in Taylor Swift’s new “Anti-Hero” music video. The cameo comes in right around 2:14, while Swift’s staging her drama-driven final arrangements.
Look past her petty will, which leaves 13 cents to each of her children — past her murderous daughter-in-law’s stolen getup from the 2009 “Fearless” tour. It’s in the background, nestled between lavish bouquets, taking up most of the frame.
It’s the damn casket.
People will seek out anything Taylor Swift touches, apparently even final resting places. Earlier this week, the Instagram account TaylorSwiftStyled — which typically highlights Swift’s fashion choices — made a post that flagged Andover’s Titan Casket as the maker of the lavish $1199 “Orion Series” casket in the “Anti-Hero” video. The new visual arrived with Swift’s tenth studio album Midnights (and the subsequent sneak-attack 3am deluxe edition) last Friday.
According to Titan co-founder Scott Ginsberg, a music video production company reached out in July about needing a casket as a prop, but kept any further details under wraps.
“They purchased the casket, telling us only that it was for a music video,” he explains. “Then on Friday, an employee recognized our casket and shared the music video. We were thrilled.”
The appearance has generated serious online buzz for Titan, mostly tracing back to the original TaylorSwiftStyled post. Comments one fan: “Ok but we know at least one Swiftie is ordering it now.” Adds another: “thank you i will be requesting this for my funeral.”
That remark might not be ironic, either; Ginsberg says the buzz from the “Anti-Hero” video is significant. “We had so many people reach out, even funeral directors,” he notes.
Much like Swift’s endless color variations for vinyl, the featured “Orion Series” casket comes in over 20 different colors, so, uh, pre-order yours now, we guess.
