Djo takes an upbeat spin gone inside out on the frenetic ‘Gloom’

A few weeks back we played a fun game at Boston Calling, eyeballing those who maybe didn’t know that Djo up there playing the Delta Airlines Blue Stage on Sunday was, in fact, Joe Keery of Stranger Things, and waiting for that wonderful moment of realization. But most folx assembled to catch his set were already quite privy, and how could they not? The Newburyport native first surfaced on our pages with Chicago psych-rock band Post Animal, but has since rolled solo and very visible as Djo, and today (July 25) drops a new track called “Gloom”, which is anything but. It’s got a bit of a throwback No Wave vibe to it, with nods to Devo and Talking Heads, and echoes out of the speakers like a man who has places to be. “Gloom” will be included on Djo’s forthcoming album DECIDE, which hits September 16. Dig it.
