There are few things as exciting as hearing a new artist and feeling like it’s the start of something special. That’s the case with Alex Amor’s enchanting new single “Bad Tattoo,” which finds the rising London-based, Glasgow-born indie-pop artist collaborating with Manchester indie-folk band The Deep Blue. “Bad Tattoo” has a lush warmth to it, a dream-pop escapade that soothes and seduces through its crystalline depth.
The track is set to be featured on Amor’s forthcoming EP The Art of Letting Go, out October 14 via Young Poet. But while “Bad Tattoo” suggests a certain kind of staying power for the musician, the song itself is about breaking free from those in your past.
“Bad Tattoo was written about a time when I wanted to forget someone,” Amor admits. “They kept making unwanted appearances in my thoughts across the day: While I was walking home, doing chores, lying in bed awake at night. I find it bizarre how it’s much easier to forget the good times but impossible to forget the bad times. It seems that our worst memories are stored somewhere deep inside of us and as much as I wanted to erase this person from my head, they persisted on my skin like a bad tattoo. Like one of those drunken tattoos you get in Ibiza at 3 a.m. and regret for the rest of your life.”
And sometimes that spins into a tune we’ll be enjoying for the reminder of ours. Listen to “Bad Tattoo” below.
