Summy looks ahead with confessional alt-pop on ‘Wish I Never Met You’

With the midpoint of the year finally here, there are two wolves throbbing inside of us: One is ready to shed the baggage of all the bullshit the first half of 2022 has thrown our way; the other is set to peace out for the long holiday weekend and fill our ears with certified jams of empowerment and inspiration. Summy’s new single “Wish I Never Met You” helps achieve both those goals.

The vibrant new track from the Arizona-born, Los Angeles-based queer dream-pop artist is a glistening electronic alt-pop joint that offers a cathartic release from the past traumas of a toxic relationship. And it sounds pretty damn good coming out of the earbuds. It feels like one of those songs you take with you on a holiday or road trip, and it instantly becomes part of that experience’s narrative, and ultimately, its memory.

“My brother and I wrote ‘Wish I Never Met You’ about me getting cheated on in a past relationship,” Summy says. “The song talks about the pain of getting your heart broken, the difficulties of sitting with your emotions, and the process of healing yourself surrounded by those who love you most.”
