Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of MusicComedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.

Music: Hatchie at Crystal Ballroom

Our homegirl Hatchie rolls into Somerville’s Crystal Ballroom tonight (May 6) with an AOTY contender in last month’s Giving The World Away, which plays out over its 12 tracks like a greatest hits record, and a pair of SOTY contender singles in the magnetic title track and a kaleidoscopic dose of sky-gaze pop called “This Enchanted.” Harriette Pilbeam has us under her spell with a sound that throwback to the ’90s and forward to what we want all music to sound like.

“‘This Enchanted’ encapsulates everything I wanted to do moving forward from my first album,” Pilbeam said when the single first hit. “We had been talking about making something dancey but shoegaze… It’s one of the more lighthearted, lyrically vague songs of my new recordings about falling in love; it’s not a perfect relationship, but you’re enthralled by one another and it’s an easy love,” she adds. “It’s one of the most fun songs I’ve written, so it was a no-brainer to pick it as my first solo release in almost two years.”

HATCHIE + CAROLINE LOVEGLOW :: Friday, May 6 at Crystal Ballroom at The Somerville Theatre, 55 Davis Square in Somerville, MA :: 7 p.m., 18-plus, $19 :: Venue page :: Advance tickets

Comedy: Janet McNamara at The Comedy Attic

Sometimes the weekend leads us to the unlikeliest of places, and this weekend, that place is Worcester. Janet McNamara, who Maria Bamford describes as “a fantastic comic — with an amazing delivery and enviable timing of very unique material,” sets up shop for two nights, tonight and Saturday, at The Comedy Attic. And it’s worth the trip to Wormtown, as Jason Greenough points out in this week’s Mic’d Up.

“The former American Idol contestant has nothing to prove in front of a comedy audience, as her appearances in headlining slots all over the region, as well her efforts in the Boston Comedy Festival speak for themselves. As one of the region’s best in the scene, McNamara delivers night after night.”

JANET MCNAMARA :: Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7 at The Comedy Attic, 257 Park Ave. in Worcester, MA :: 8 p.m., $20 :: Venue page and advance tickets

Film/TV: ‘Psycho’ at The Brattle

We love inspired programming, and once we’re all finished making crappy macaroni art and posting Danzig memes on Sunday (May 8), we’ll head over to The Brattle in Cambridge for a screening of Psycho, a touching film about the dynamics between a mother and son (and some murder). Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic gets the matinee treatment, and Harvard Square film house rolls out a new “unedited restoration” that includes previously unseen footage. Happy Mother’s Day!

From The Brattle: “During a 2020 restoration of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 masterpiece, it was discovered that an edited version had been what was in circulation ever since the first run of the film. One minute had been removed after the initial theatrical screenings for television and was unwittingly never restored. So be prepared for a version of Psycho that now includes more flesh, more blood, and more violence.”

‘PSYCHO’ :: Sunday, May 8 at The Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St. in Cambridge, MA :: 1 p.m., all ages, $12 :: Venue page :: Advance tickets
