Sinead O’Brien assures us ‘There Are Good Times Coming’

A new song from Sinead O’Brien is like welcoming an old friend for dinner. You have a loose idea of how the evening is going to go, parameters established by past encounters, but you’re struck by the newness and the updated storylines of everything that has happened since that last hang. Today (April 22), the Irish art-rock poet releases another magnetic new track called “There Are Good Times Coming,” and O’Brien is probably the only person who could convince us of such a ludicrous sentiment. The icy lushness, an emerging trademark of O’Brien’s vibe, certainly helps push the narrative.

This one, along with last November’s “Girlkind”, will be featured on her forthcoming debut album, Time Bend And Break The Bower, set for release June 10 via Chess Club. It should be one the best, and most unique, albums of 2022.

Here’s what O’Brien has to say about “There Are Good Times Coming,” via a post on Instagram: “Making this track I had a mood, a starting point; empty train station, full moon, distant dog barks. I had the hook which was so overpowering, overbearing that it needed to be front and centre. I had the tone and the intention was set. We worked on music which created a charge — how tension feels in a place, energy moved, displaced. Some stark moments and space in the track leave room for thought. Pockets of silence in amongst deep rumblings and a guitar ride on a wild horse.”
