Boy, are we amped up for Dune: Part Three, and how wonderful is it to get a brand-new trailer for it on a random Wednesday afternoon? Seriously, The Odyssey doesn’t even come out for another ten days, and this sure as shit isn’t going to be attached to prints of Moana this weekend. We’d have expected this to come out next Monday! But sometimes we’re wrong, and sometimes it’s right to be wrong: After all, you might get rewarded with new footage from Dune.
It looks like Denis Villeneuve has brought the goods for his apparent swan song from the franchise, a final kiss-off to all the folks who thought he’d never make Frank Herbert’s series into blockbuster cinema. Bet y’all feel real smart right now. No matter. You don’t have to pay up, and you can enjoy this along with the rest of us.
Peep it:
Here’s a synopsis for Dune: Part Three:
“‘Dune: Part Three’ is set nearly two decades after Paul Atreides seized control of the Imperium. Now a ruthless Emperor, Paul must face the consequences of his reign as old allies return, terrifying new threats emerge, and betrayal lurks in every shadow. Haunted by visions of Imperial collapse and the reappearance of his long-lost love, Paul is drawn into a sweeping conspiracy, with Chani at the heart of its unfolding mystery. As rebellion brews and enemies close in, Paul must confront the true cost of power and the fate of those he loves the most.”
Dune: Part Three hits theaters — and, importantly, IMAX theaters — on December 18.
Why “importantly?” Well, Dune‘s got the screens, and Avengers: Doomsday doesn’t. You know you’re doing something right when Disney’s threatening to take their ball and go home, to make their own prestige-format cinemas instead of using IMAX (albeit without blackjack and hookers). But really, we just know someone’s going to trademark the word “Dunesday” and try to convince folks to do a Barbieheimer double feature. The only difference is folks’ll be in the theater for… eight hours?
