Johnny Marr announces ‘USA Comet’ tour for the spring

Yes New England: The Smiths guitarist skips Boston but plays Providence, New Haven, Burlington, and Portland

It came out last June, but we’re still marveling at the sheer magnitude and grace of Johnny Marr’s 2018 solo record Call The Comet. The Smiths guitarist showed off some excellent and varied songwriting on the LP, managing to both push his signature sound forward and calling back to his iconic past.

After bringing the record to a sold-out Paradise Rock Club in October, Marr has announced a spring slate of dates that skips Boston but does come to New England over four shows: May 3 at Fete Music Hall in Providence (Rhode Island); May 4 at College Street Music Hall in New Haven (Connecticut); May 7 at Higher Ground Ballroom in Burlington (Vermont); and May 8 at Aura in Portland (Maine). Check all the dates below.

Call The Comet is my own magic realism,” Marr says of his record. “It’s set in the not-too-distant future and is mostly concerned with the idea of an alternative society. The characters in the songs are searching for a new idealism, although there are some personal songs in there too. It’s something that people like me can relate to.”

We certainly have.
