Eugene Mirman brings friends n’ fun to Somerville’s Comedy Studio

The Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival may have seen it’s final go-around in 2017, but maybe the mastermind behind the successful multi-day festival is onto a new, more informal-type idea to fill the void.

With his first more high-profile stand-up set at the new Comedy Studio space since its relocation to Somerville’s Bow Market in September, Mirman is bringing some friends along to mark the occasion for a sold-out show aptly named “Eugene Mirman & Friends” on Sunday night (Dec. 2).

“I think people can expect a show that’s informal and fun, with each comic doing different things,” Mirman tells Vanyaland. “While I don’t know what everyone else will be doing, I know I’ll be trying different stuff.”

The Lexington native will be joined by Bob’s Burgers co-star and Abington native Larry Murphy (the voice of Teddy), the Comedy Studio’s December comic in-residence Tooky Kavanagh, Alex La, and more on Sunday night. Mirman is excited to have been a big part of the beginning stages of the Studio’s new space; he’s performed a few smaller guest spots since it’s grand re-opening, but he’s pumped over the Studio having a space of its own, and that, ultimately, allows him a little bit more creative freedom.

“The exciting thing about this show is that it’s a small space, and I can try things, and it’s like the informal shows I used to do in New York,” Mirman says, adding “it’s fun to get to be home and do this show there now.”
