Fast Tracked: alxxa’s ‘Icy Love’ is the electro-pop breakup jam to get us through winter

Sometimes we’re faced with a dilemma: What do we listen to in those rare moments when we’re burnt out on Charli XCX’s Pop 2? After a few months of wearing out the tape on our girl’s latest mix, we might have found the perfect substitute in alxxa’s new single “Icy Love.” Premiered by NYLON earlier this week, the kiss-off track feels like it’d be right at home on an XCX-curated mix, and its breezy vibe and catch-fire lyricism positions the Los Angeles-based electro-pop singer as someone to watch in 2018. alxxa, née Alex Saad, admits “Icy Love” is a breakup jam and was inspired by her getting tired of a dude’s can’t-be-back-on-it-if-you-never-got-off-it bullshit, but we’re looking at it from a different perspective: This slick joint might spell the end of a relationship, but it feels like the beginning of a whole lot of new collaborations. We can’t wait to see what alxxa has planned in the year ahead, and who knows, maybe Charli’s paying attention, too. Listen to “Icy Hot” below.
