A while back, the Cure announced a massive North American tour that promised to deliver hits, rarities, favorites across the band’s nearly 40 years of music, and some new and unreleased material. At their kickoff last night, May 10, at the Kiefer UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, Robert Smith and company made good on the promise with a 28-song marathon set that included two new tracks, “Step Into The Light” and “It Can Never Be The Same”.

The Cure’s last album release was 4:13 Dream back in 2008, so hopefully these two new songs suggest a proper album or single release is on the way.
In the meantime, The Cure’s North American tour continues tonight with a second show in New Orleans, and they play Agganis Arena at Boston University on June 16.
