Listen: The Blog That Celebrates Itself releases 16-song Galaxie 500 tribute album

In their few short years together in the late-’80s and early-’90s, Massachusetts dream-pop trio Galaxie 500 only released three studio albums, but inspired countless others. This week, they get the full album tribute treatment from The Blog That Celebrates Itself, a Brazilian-based operation that has been steadily releasing digital new music compilations and tributes to the likes of New Order, Echo & the Bunnymen, and Chapterhouse.

Now, it’s Galaxie 500 who get the treatment, and on Blue Thunder, 16 bands and artists come together to pay tribute to Naomi Yang, Dean Wareham, and Damon Krukowski. The comp starts with top-shelf Baltimore ‘gazers Thrushes, who we premiered a track from last fall.

“The music is and must necessarily be magical, otherwise loses its strength, its essence,” writes The Blog That Celebrates Itself. “And that magic is in every song of every album of Galaxie 500, and that is never erased. That’s the feeling that I still have from the first time I heard ‘Tugboat'”.

Listen to Blue Thunder below via Bandcamp, and be sure to download a copy via the pay-what-you-want format.
