With Winter Storm Jonas crashing down on parts of Eastern Massachusetts this past weekend, Saturday night was a bit of a whiteout in Boston. Heavy snow and poor visibility in the early evening forced a lot of folks to hunker down for the night, souring some weekend plans and creating a bit of cabin fever across the city.
So it's only natural to declare tonight, Monday night, the new Saturday night, if only for this week (we'll leave it open for future decision as February sees fit). Over at the Lansdowne Pub in Boston, Narragansett Brewing Company is celebrating 125 years of snow parties, summer BBQs, and everything in between with a Maine flavored Americana bash.
The free event features two finer Northern New England acts, Portland alt-country crew The Mallett Brothers Band, and Buxton's purveyors of holler-folk & stomp, The Ghost of Paul Revere.
"They are two bands I've wanted to work with in broader capacity for a while," says Pete Boyd, Narragansett's sales and marketing manager for the Boston area. "Narragansett does really well in Maine, and these guys have been big supporters. We saw the opportunity to bring them down, and we knew it would fit. 'Gansett has done rock and roll thing in past, and this is bringing it back."
Boyd agrees that tonight's party -- which will also feature a Narragansett birthday cake and an embroidery station for affixing Narragansett patches on whatever clothing item a drinker desires -- serves as a fitting weekend do-over.
"If people were stuck inside, this is perfect opportunity to get out of the house," he adds. "It's a Monday night, a lot of people have Monday nights off -- and it'll be over early.
