Foo Fighters get the TV boot: ‘We were gonna play on the Emmys, and then they kicked us off’

Uh-oh, did the Emmys really diss Dave Grohl? That’s not cool!

TMZ reports that the Foo Fighters were in line to be the first rock band to ever perform live on the awards show, a result of their HBO documentary series Sonic Highways, which took home two Emmys (for Outstanding Sound Editing for Nonfiction Programming and Outstanding Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming). But it never happened, because apparently network producers weren’t into hearing a full song played out on live television. Or something like that.

From TMZ:

A rep for Grohl tells TMZ … the band was all set to perform, and would have been the first ever rock band to play the Emmys. But the rep says, “FOX then refused to allow the band to play a full song from the Emmy-winning Sonic Highways.” FF won 2 Emmys for its HBO docuseries on HBO, but you can tell from his reaction last night … Dave wanted to play, but obviously … he wanted it his way. We have a call in to FOX and the Emmys for their side of the story.

But Grohl, who was met by TMZ reporters last night in Los Angeles, doesn’t close the door on future Foo Fighters performances on TV’s biggest night. Very savvy!
