Uncaged: Racing Glaciers return with soaring new single ‘Animal’

On the eve of Valentine’s Day 2014, we had a huge decision to make: what was going to be the first ever song played at noon the next day on Vanya Radio? We debated new vs. old, global vs. Boston, obvious vs. obscure. Did we want to go classic or push forward with something new to reflect our playlists? Through our debates we kept coming back to a song called “New Country” by a fast-rising indie quintet out of Macclesfield, England, by the name of Racing Glaciers.

It now stands as our online alt-rock radio station’s debut tune, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the selection. As we’ve grown over the past six months, so has the band. This week Racing Glaciers dropped their third EP, the sweeping Don’t Wait For Me today, and its lead single “Animal” picks up their penchant for lush, ambitious guitar-pop. It’s skyscraper-tall soundtrack rock for the most intense scenes of love, loss, and emotion.

“I was back home for a few days and we have this old beat up piano,” says frontman Tim Monaghan via Indie Is Not A Genre. “It’s never sounded very good but there’s something I love about it, it’s great for coming up with ideas. I wrote ‘Animal’ one evening then we developed the sound as a band.”

As Racing Glaciers fill their summer and fall with a string of European festival appearances, it shouldn’t be long before they make their North American debut. Something tells us the live show is pure magic.
