You’re My Hero: David Paige’s new music video recreates ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’

By now we know the deal. It’s Friday afternoon, and you’re likely to spend all weekend pretending to be sick in bed watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for the billionth time while reading internet folk tales about how Ferris is all in Cameron Frye’s Fight Club-esque imagination and Googling exactly what the hell Mia Sara is up to these days (spoiler alert).

But before you fall down the John Hughes classic’s rabbit hole, feast your eyes on the new video from Chicago singer-songwriter David Paige. Produced and directed by Cambridge-based Red Hot Box Studios, “Are You Ready” recreates multiples scenes from Ferris Bueller, and from the looks of it even shot a few scenes at Frye’s house and the unmistakable front steps of Maine North High School in Des Plaines, Illinois.

Those tidbits are so cool, we’ll even overlook why the Frye character is wearing a Chicago Blackhawks jersey with Michal freakin’ Handzus’ name and number on it. Frye’s proud wearing of his old-school Detroit Red Wings jersey emblazoned with Gordie Howe’s #9 was our favorite anecdotal aspect of the original film — Frye was the ultimate outsider, a Wings fan in Chicago — but we guess that was too much for the Chicago-based Paige to handle. (We understand. We wouldn’t be wearing a R*ngers jersey if we ever decided to re-create Big Daddy for whatever reason.)

Regardless of all that jersey nonsense, this is pretty great.

And to paraphrase a wise man: “Videos move pretty fast. If you don’t stop and watch them once in a while, you could miss it.”
