Before we drop our actual lede for this new Insidious movie, we’ve got to give you a brief recap of other recaps (specifically, IGN‘s) of what went down at Sony’s CinemaCon presentation in Vegas last night. There was some new footage from the Spider-Man movies, Brand New Day (whatever) and Beyond the Spider-Verse (FINALLY); the Jumanji reboot gang is coming to the real world in their next feature; FromSoftware’s Bloodborne is getting a movie (but Sony can’t be assed to remake the game); Zach Cregger’s got a Resident Evil film almost in the tank; someone told Taika Waititi that he was right for an Ishiguro adaptation; and Aaron Sorkin’s out to ruin the legacy of his last good movie, The Social Network, with an ill-advised sequel.
Alright, without further ado, here’s the actual lede: is the Insidious franchise our last emo horror franchise? Just take a look at the title for Jacob Chase’s rebootquel — Insidious: Out of the Further. That sounds like a MCR “B-sides and Rarities” release, or at least something The World is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die would put out. Hell, the last one had Patrick Wilson fronting a Ghost track, which sounded like something straight out of the mid-aughts. Anyway, Sony dropped the trailer last night, and it’s here for your enjoyment.
Take a look:
Here’s a synopsis for Insidious: Out of the Further:
“In ‘Insidious: Out of the Further,’ Amelia Eve stars as Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in the house she grew up in who discovers she can travel into The Further, the purgatorial realm of lost souls at the heart of the Insidious universe. When something evil comes after her, Gemma discovers an ability that changes everything: she doesn’t just enter The Further, she can bring what lives there back to the real world. Once the demons realize her power, our world becomes their playground.”
Insidious: Out of the Further hits theaters on August 21. Stay tuned for more secondhand news from CinemaCon throughout the week.
