Studio 52 Spotlight: Julie Rhodes

What Studio 52 Says: Voted “New Artist of the Year” at last year’s Boston Music Awards — and up for four awards on the 2017 BMAs ballot: Artist of the Year, Unsigned Artist of the Year, Live Artist of the Year, and Americana Artist of the Year — Somerville’s Julie Rhodes has already risen to the ranks among Boston’s finest soul musicians. With her 2016 debut full-length Bound to Meet the Devil, Rhodes certainly earned the honor and backed it up the same night with a superb performance at the House of Blues. Her vocal melodies are something to envy — every crooning note hits their mark and merges with her talented backing band to form an impressive display of Americana that is sure to nab her many more well-deserved accolades. Without losing a step, Rhodes’ latest single, “I’d Rather Go Blind,” is a continuation of her brilliance and sign of great things to come. Catch Julie Rhodes tonight at Brighton Music Hall in Allston with Middle Kids, Aubrey Haddard, and DJ Carbo as part of The Fenway Recording Sessions, and this weekend at Festival On The Farm in Canton. — Andrew Maroney, Studio 52
