It should come as no surprise that we’ve long been fans of alt-pop singer Sara Kendall.
Over the 13 months we’ve premiered two of her recent singles (kindly revisit last fall’s “I’ll Be Your Skin” and this summer’s “Keynote” if you’re unaware), and watched as the one-time Bostonian has bloomed alongside her powerful, soulful voice.
Now, her recent collaboration with the New Hampshire-born, Los Angeles-based producer CRNKN has elevated things to a whole new level. On “The Grip”, a throbbing and hauntingly gorgeous electronic-pop slow-banger, Kendall gets the ultra slick production and heightened visibility she deserves. The track even comes with a killer music video directed by NOFUN that transports Kendall to an alternate reality.
Watch it below via YouTube, and allow both sound and vision to consume the senses.
“Making this song with Sara Kendall has been an extremely special experience and I’m so glad to finally be able to share it with you all,” CRNKN writes. “Believe it or not I wrote the first instrumental of this song about three years ago, so it feels pretty surreal that it’s finally getting to go out into the world. This is my favorite song I’ve written thus far and it’s in no small part due to Sara and her incredible voice and introspective lyrics. It’s a song about reflection, about looking inward. A song about our own personal internal struggles. I hope it comes to mean as much to each one of you as it does for me.
Adds Kendall: “Three years ago Crnkn and I connected across coasts and began working on a song that became one of my favorite tracks to both write and record. Thank you to Mom + Pop Music and NOFUN for helping us put it together.”
The song demands multiple listens, and the video warrants multiple views. Stop wasting time and accomplish both ends of your obligation below.
