A few lucky New England devils will get to see Elvis Costello this weekend when the legendary musician plays Newport Folk Festival. For the rest of us, we’ll have to wait until the fall — but with this morning’s news, it seems the wait will be worth it.
Costello has announced the “Imperial Bedroom & Other Chambers” tour, with his band, The Imposters. The tour title comes from his celebrated 1982 album with the Attractions, and the run will frame songs from that record as well as, according to Costello in a note on his website, “the songs that led in and out of that velvet-trimmed playhouse.”
Costello elaborates: “You must have known by now that we wouldn’t play this kind of show by anyone else’s rules. You’ll hear all the songs that fit the bill; hits and headlines, waifs and strays. In the words of the great Eric Morecambe, ‘I am playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order.’”
Along their recent United Kingdom tour that’s currently concluding, Elvis Costello & The Imposters have been playing sets that extend to roughly 30 songs. This upcoming East Coast and Midwest swing features 12 dates total, including an October 25 appearance at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 22; full dates are below.
