There’s been a decent amount of news of late about politicians using certain songs along their campaign trail; namely, Donald Trump and his use of music from Twisted Sister (approved) and Neil Young (not approved).
Today, when Kentucky clerk Kim Davis was released from jail after being found in contempt of court for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples because of her religious beliefs, she was joined by some Republican politicians, a vocal group of supporters, and the sounds of Survivor’s 1982 Rocky III hit “Eye of the Tiger,” which blared from the speakers out into the warm Kentucky air.
Use of the song, used to celebrate endurance and strength in a time of need, posits Davis as a religious hero.
And Survivor guitarist Frankie Sullivan, “the only consistent, surviving member of the band since 1977,” according to the Daily Dot, is not happy about it.
In fact, he wouldn’t even spare Davis some of his own toiler paper.
Sullivan posted the following to his Facebook page: “NO! We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use “My Tune -The Eye Of The Tiger.” I would not grant her the rights to use Charmin! C’mom Mike, you are not The Donald but you can do better than that -”
The Mike he’s referring to, presumably, is former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, who was on stage with Davis. Texas Senator Ted Cruz was also apparently there as well, and there were a lot of religious crosses. Watch the video below if you missed it…
