Over the past five years, the annual Starlabfest has been a summer tradition, as bands and vendors descend on the Starlab Studios property in Somerville for a friendly, all-are-welcome afternoon of grilling and chilling (yeah we just wrote that, sorry). But as the calendar suddenly jumped to August this past weekend and the countdown to autumn started up, we were worried Starlabfest wouldn’t happen this year.
Our fears were extinguished rather quickly, it turns out, as this morning Starlabfest announced its full music lineup for its sixth-annual celebration. It all goes down August 22 and this year features Rock And Roll Rumble winners Zip-Tie Handcuffs as well as The Novel Ideas, Meth Valley, Luau, American Echoes, Beach Toys, and Ohio’s Tweens.
Somerville’s Old School Game Show will also be on site, in addition to comedy, local film, and visual arts. Some more info from the organizers:
Local vendors will be onsite selling vintage clothing, records, and knick-knacks in a flea market curated by High Energy Vintage, alongside upright arcade games (on free play!) from the Bit Fest crew and an interactive performance from Old School Game Show!
The Starlab grill will be churning out free burgers, hot dogs and vegetarian options and beer will be available from Narragansett. Festival-goers are encouraged to bring their well socialized dogs as there will be a canine cool-down station with a kiddie pool, water bowls, shade from the sun and even some adoption-ready dogs from PAWS New England.
The festival will take place at 10 Poplar St., just outside of Union Square, at the future home of the Somerville Arts Council’s ARTfarm project.
$10 advance / $12 day of show, tickets are available online from Brown Paper Tickets or at the following local businesses: Berk’s Shoes, Allston Diner, High Energy Vintage and Starlab Studios.
While Starlabfest.com has more info, here is a quick preview of the bands taking part (we could not find embed links for Meth Valley, as it turns out)
