Before we say anything about the trailer at hand, how bizarre is it that Blumhouse and James Wan are already citing their involvement with Obsession and Backrooms (respectively)? Talk about an overnight industry-shaker, huh? Anyhow, we’re always excited when a new Rob Savage movie comes around (his pandemic-era found footage movie Dashcam being one of the funniest things released during that dark time), so we’ve got to shout out Other Mommy, a movie that is surprisingly not based on Coraline, but a Josh Malmerman novel titled Incidents Around the House. Yes, it will likely be better than Bird Box, and no, it is not included in your streaming package.
Universal dropped a trailer for the movie on Tuesday, and guess what — it looks swell! It’s always cool to see Jessica Chastain in horror features as well, though it’s kind of funny that she’s been in two mom-oriented horror features (remember Mama from 2012?). So, watch the damn thing already!
Peep it:
Here’s a synopsis (and a brief top-line cast list) for Other Mommy:
“Can I go inside your heart? From James Wan, one of the most influential architects of modern horror behind the ‘Saw,’ ‘Insidious’ and ‘The Conjuring’ franchises — and Rob Savage, the director of bold genre films ‘Host’ and ‘The Boogeyman,’ comes a terrifying trip into the darkening world of a young girl, Bela, who forms a relationship with a sinister entity in her home who looks uncannily like her own mother. Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain (‘It Chapter Two,’ ‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’) stars in a dual role as Bela’s mother and as “Other Mommy,” a manifestation of the entity. Jay Duplass (‘Transparent,’ ‘Industry’) plays Daddo, Bela’s father, and Arabella Olivia Clark (The ‘Housemaid,’ ‘The Hand that Rocks the Cradle’) plays Bela.”
Other Mommy hits theaters on October 9.
