A battle cry set to a sprightly piano melody is still a battle cry, and Neemz is leading the chant. The Boston-based Palestinian musician skips to the sweet sound of rebellion on “cHoPpEd ChEeSe!”, her new single that dropped last week (July 10).
There’s a lot to be fed up about right now, and “cHoPpEd ChEeSe!” sums up our collective exhaustion from maintaining full plates, day in and day out, just to survive. But the tune’s got stamina nonetheless, and Neemz’s hunger for change is palpable.
“’cHoPpEd ChEeSe’ tells the story of the chopped reality we live in, being in the constant chase for capitalistic goals, working multiple jobs, terrible food systems, and barely surviving in an overly taxed society,” she says. “Over-consuming while remaining in a state of exhaustion.”
Neemz continues: “It reflects silenced voices, an imbalance of power within the government and systems that govern us, and how deeply we become entangled in it all, even as it drains us.”
