The only acceptable times to utter the dreaded s-word before the season’s first blizzard is when singing “Let It Snow” or in reference to Snowgaze Fest.
This Friday and Saturday (December 13 and 14), Deep Cuts will unveil a new two-day celebration of shoegaze and dream-pop, courtesy of a tight lineup of Massachusetts acts. Snowgaze Fest is the brainchild of Eye Design, the booking outfit of Deep Cuts co-owner and talent buyer Ian McGregor.
Friday night will feature performances from Vivid Bloom, Slow Quit, Main Era (pictured above), and Still Life Sounds, while Saturday evening taps The Shallows, dropbear, Honeywave, and Maine’s XO to round out the festivities. Most of the acts dropped new music this year, including the celestial November single “Murder Your Darlings” from The Shallows and Still Life Sounds’ heady project nowherestar, which arrived last week (December 6).
Folks from Digital Awareness — who specialize in live digital projection — will cast a psychedelic array of visuals across the stage at both shows, transforming the Medford venue into a snowglobe of sorts. Proceeds from Snowgaze Festival will go to the East Boston youth organization ZUMIX, as well as Warm Up Boston, a program supporting unhoused people through material aid and advocacy.
