The headline tells no lie: Father John Misty is back with a new album set for release this spring, and he’s delivered the first tune from it this week, an orchestral ballad called “Funny Girl.”

The LP is titled Chloë And The Next 20th Century, and it marks Josh Tillman’s fifth studio album under the FJM moniker, and his first since 2018’s God’s Favorite Customer. It features arrangements from Drew Erickson and co-production from longtime collaborator Jonathan Wilson, and it’ll be out April 8 via Sub Pop on a variety of formats: CD, cassette, digital, vinyl editions, and a box set that includes a hardcover book, a poster, and Lana Del Rey joining in with some covers on 7-inch.

Father John Misty teased new music on Instagram back in November, so we were dully warned. Get into “Funny Girl” below, either on the stream or via the Nicholas Ashe Bateman-directed video on YouTube.
