Studio 52 Spotlight: Mickey Rickshaw
What Studio 52 Says: Boston may be nationally known for a couple select folk-punk acts, but none hit the mark quite as well as Studio 52 residents Mickey Rickshaw. Their latest record Home in Song, released just a few months ago, exemplifies their punk roots with a collection of finely tuned amalgamations of drinking songs, Irish folk music, and old-school hardcore.
At nearly double the amount of members as you’d assume, the band is loaded with talent weaving through every instrument they operate. They perfectly encapsulate the spirit of Celtic rock and have an exorbitant amount of fun in doing so. Their songs are bouncy, up-tempo ditties that beg for you to sing along and you’ll be hard-pressed to rebuff. Mickey Rickshaw also have no issues playing any stage big or small — from sharing bills with Rancid, Flogging Molly, NOFX, Bouncing Souls, Lucero, and The Menzingers (just to name a few) to intimate sets at dive bars in Allston, the band relishes every opportunity to share their tunes with anyone and everyone.
Be sure to stop by UnchARTed in Lowell tonight (June 28) to celebrate their fiddle player’s birthday with a stacked bill also including Hempsteadys, Radiator Rattlers, and Lipstick Boys. Next month you can also catch them opening for A Loss For Words at The Sinclair in Cambridge on July 20 with Keep Flying, Frankie Puopolo, and former Studio 52 Featured Band The Hideout.
