Here in the Northeast, we’ve reached the point of the year where our emotions are split into two halves. We’ve embraced all that autumn has to offer, the crispness of the air snaps back against the invigorating fall foliage and color pop, and the onset of the glorious ‘Ber months brings a smoky comfort to our lives. But we also know the cradled coziness has an expiration date, soon giving way to a cold and bitter winter that delivers seasonal depression and frigid confinement trapped under endless ice. Chicago band Sleepwalk have a sonic tonic for the fears that lurk, a hypnotic shade of dream-pop with a nuanced mood called “Jan 22,” which embraces the lowest season through a tranquil but heavy blend of shoegaze, ’90s alt-rock, and post-hardcore. “‘Jan 22’ is a love letter to winter time in the city, as well as a general celebration of life,” says vocalist and guitarist Ryan Davis. “It’s easy to focus on the bad things and miss the beauty.” This melancholic cruiser will be featured on the band’s forthcoming album, View FromThe Outside, out November 13 via MNRK Heavy.
