If Andrew Mayer has been anything throughout his many years on comedy stages all over the world, he’s been himself. Now, he’s he’s reminding us to do the same while putting it on the record for everyone to see.
It’s sure to be a special night at The Rockwell on Sunday (August 2) as Mayer makes his way back to the underground Davis Square arts cathedral to not only perform his battle tested one-man show Have Fun, Be Yourself, but also with the intention of recording it for his next slate of recorded material, adding to his ever expanding library of material like 2015’s Nonsense and 2020’s Having a Nice Time.
While pulling back the curtain can reveal too much ahead of time, Mayer’s open and honest musings on everything from personal relationships to his dealings with anxiety, while also tackling concepts surrounding confidence and sincerity are sure to deliver a night of laughs, of course, for anyone familiar with the level of comedic wizardry. It’s also sure to carry, however, a significant amount of weight in the thoughtful department, as Mayer doesn’t stop at jokes for the sake of a laugh, but rather delivers hilarity along the way of a broader journey that packs quite a punch.
