As the noise inside our collective heads gets considerably louder, reflecting a cacophony of the outside world that feels increasingly impossible to ignore, every now and again we stop to wonder if we’re alone in feeling this sense of all-consuming dread. DC indie rock trio Flowers For The Dead have put a sense of assurance into sound through new single “My Misery Is Mine,” one that harkens back to a jaded ’90s alt-rock lineage of the likes of Juliana Hatfield and Liz Phair, connecting us to a time when few of us had any cares in the world. “I wrote this song during one of those life moments where things feel like they’re just happening and you have no control over it,” says singer/guitarist Jessie Szegö, joined in the band by bassist Naomi Seat and drummer Ten Bears. “I’ve learned to trust in the way things go and put faith in the universe, but there’s always that juvenile instinct to hold onto sadness and anger and wear it like a badge.” Easy come, less easy go.
