Las Robertas weave a hazy daydream into ‘All We Need Is Now’

If there’s any lens through which we wish we could revisit life, it’s the hazy daydream nature of a grainy ’90s-era handycam video. That feeling of carefree bliss felt organic and natural, far from the modern-day subjugation of constantly being recorded and surveilled, and the idea of being in front of a camera wasn’t so embedded into our (self-)consciousness. Las Robertas, a psych band from Costa Rica, draw us back into that world with the colorful visual for “All We Need Is Now,” the ‘gazey, dream-pop title track from their forthcoming album out June 26 on Kanine Records. The record is said to explore themes of overcoming fear, living in the present, and evolving on a personal and spiritual level, and this driving track spotlighted here has a pillowy air of expansiveness that wouldn’t sound out of place on a mixtape where ’60s psychedelia and ’90s alt-rock and shoegaze converged. The visual was produced, shot, and directed by Madrid-based artist Juan Alvarez Santos (aka Arma Blancx), complete with a wink and a nod to the sextet’s favorite Rolling Stones album, The Satanic Majesties Request. Allow the aesthetic to wash over you below.
