This fickle, frustrating (i.e., quintessentially New England) weather is just a pre-game event for Dark Spring Boston this weekend. What, did you want to host a band called Rosegarden Funeral Party in the warm, balmy sunshine?
No, only some final gusts of winter will do for the Cambridge festival’s fifth edition, which takes over Sonia this Saturday. This year’s lineup continues the fest’s typical assemblage of artists who dance in the dim spaces between post-punk, darkwave, and goth music, featuring Boston groups PILGRIMS and Ex-Hyena (pictured above), Pennsylvania outfit Faux Fear, Dallas’ Rosegarden Funeral Party, and a pair of New Yorkers, Komrads and Stare Away. (The most faraway visitor of the lot, special guest DJ Dragnet, hails from the Netherlands and returns for his third Dark Spring Boston appearance).
The festivities double as a record release show for PILGRIMS, whose new LP Gemini arrived in February, followed by a recent music video for album closer “Liminal Travel.” One of the fest’s satellite events at the Middle East Upstairs is also an LP release show: Tonight’s celebration of Spirit Hotel’s latest effort, Rêve, with support from Coffin Salesman, Hemlock for Socrates, and DJ Dragnet.
True, this weekend’s forecast is looking sunny, but it’s brood-o’clock somewhere. Grab tickets here, and get more info below.
