Watch Charlize Theron take on an Aussie ‘Apex’ predator

We’re heading into the brief semi-slow Easter season at the multiplex, where a few tentpoles hold up the marketplace while everyone gets ready for summer, which is prime time for streamers looking to drag a few eyeballs away from the Big Screen. This is when you get your Interesting genre-related Netflix Originals, such as Baltasar Kormakur’s Apex, an upcoming two-hander featuring Charlie Theron facing off against Taron Egerton in the Outback. Kormakur’s an interesting filmmaker, as he’s churned out solid B-tier adventures (Everest, Beast) in between hits in his native Iceland, and we’re excited to see what he’s got cooking with this talent and premise. Netflix dropped a trailer for the film on Wednesday (and you better bet you’ll be seeing it during their big MLB Opening Day game should you choose to subject yourself to a Yankees/Giants matchup), and it looks pretty swell.

Peep it:

As usual, here’s an on-brand super-short synopsis for Apex from Netflix:

“A grieving woman testing her limits in the Australian wilderness is suddenly ensnared in a deadly game with a ruthless predator.”

But wait! There’s more! This one was in the YouTube description as well—think of it as an A/B test, but with no real choice involved:

“Testing her limits in the remote and unforgiving Australian wilderness, Sasha (Charlize Theron) suddenly finds herself not only up against the elements, but also facing off against a ruthless and lethal predator (Taron Egerton).”

Yeah, that’s actually much better. We choose B, Netflix.

You know, if this were a Hulu release, this would likely be another Predator sequel, and we’re kind of bummed that it’s not. Alas, you’ll just have to navigate a few apps over to Netflix to check out Apex when it hits the streaming service on April 24. At least it’s not on Crackle.
