You know, if you squint real hard, you can almost see how Jeremy Allen White kinda looks like Bruce Springsteen. He’s definitely got like thirty pounds of muscle on the Boss, and his face is a little more angular, but still — no “hot rodent boyfriend” bullshit here, just New Jersey Americana here to play you three hours of classic tracks and then come out for two encores. The point is, we get it.
It’s interesting casting for Scott Cooper’s Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, which is 20th Century Studios’ next music-centric biopic, following A Complete Unknown, which somehow didn’t need Bobby D’s name front and center in the title for people to know what movie it was. Anyway, Zombie Fox dropped a trailer for the project on Wednesday, and it looks pretty good, all things considered. Nebraska‘s a hell of an album after all, and this movie’s all about how that one got recorded.
Peep it:
Here’s a synopsis and a cast list for Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere:
“From 20th Century Studios, ‘Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere’ chronicles the making of Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 ‘Nebraska’ album when he was a young musician on the cusp of global superstardom, struggling to reconcile the pressures of success with the ghosts of his past. Recorded on a 4-track recorder in Springsteen’s New Jersey bedroom, the album marked a pivotal time in his life and is considered one of his most enduring works — a raw, haunted acoustic record populated by lost souls searching for a reason to believe.”
Starring Jeremy Allen White as the Boss, the film is written for the Screen and directed by Scott Cooper, based on the book ‘Deliver Me from Nowhere’ by Warren Zanes. ‘Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere’ also features Jeremy Strong as Springsteen’s long-time confidant and manager, Jon Landau; Paul Walter Hauser as guitar tech Mike Batlan; Stephen Graham as Springsteen’s father, Doug, Odessa Young as love interest, Faye; Gaby Hoffman as Springsteen’s mom, Adele; Marc Maron as Chuck Plotkin and David Krumholtz as Columbia executive, Al Teller.”
Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere will hit theaters on October 24, which means it’ll likely be making its rounds on the fall festival circuit. Either way, we’re excited.
