We know you were bummed we sat out San Diego Comic-Con coverage this year, but let’s get real: Outside of Air Bud, Matchbox, and a bunch of Marvel announcements better glimpsed on an Instagram feed than in an article, there wasn’t too much for us to cover. It really was just a whole lot of TV. And, well, comics. Neuromancer looks dope, though. Anyway, what probably should have been at SDCC was Paramount, specifically to show off Gina Prince-Bythewood’s Children of Blood and Bone, a YA fantasy adaptation that’s so popular even we’ve heard about it. It’s got an absurd cast, a bona fide director, a large budget, and… a January release date?
Bizarrely, there seems to be a lot of disquiet going on behind the scenes — the book’s author, Tomi Adeyemi, has taken an Alan Moore approach to her involvement here (though not nearly as far as being credited as “The Original Author” like Moore was for the Miracleman reprints), and when there’s smoke, there’s often some sort of fire-like emergency.
Perhaps one day we’ll figure out exactly what’s going on, but this is not that day. This is the day that Paramount dropped the trailer for the feature, presumably so it could be attached to prints of Spider-Man this weekend. It looks pretty cool, but who knows?

Jesus, that really is a ton of talent.
Anyway, Children of Blood and Bone hits theaters on January 15.
