All things considered, the Jumanji movies are kind of a best-case scenario for a reboot franchise. They got about as far away as they could from the premise of “board game comes to life,” but they’re still like the original in spirit. Importantly, they’re pretty funny, but that’s what happens when you have Big-Ass Names With Comedic Chops — The Rock, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan — leading the cast. So, it makes sense they’d come out for one “last” outing in Jumanji: Open World, and tie the franchise together with a nice little bow.
How? Well, they’re gonna bring the game to the real world. Get it? Full-circle, folks. As George Lucas once said, “It’s like poetry. They rhyme.” Anyhow, these movies aren’t half bad (though the first one remains the best), and this one will probably be a pretty decent time as well. Again, it’s Spider-Man week, so you better bet Sony had a trailer chambered for this one, and they unloaded it earlier on Wednesday for your mid-week entertainment.
Peep it:
Here’s a brief-as-hell synopsis for Jumanji: Open World:
“This Christmas, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are reunited in ‘Jumanji: Open World,’ the hilarious final installment of the globally beloved action-adventure trilogy. Our heroes have escaped the perilous jungles of Jumanji before, but this time Jumanji breaks free of its console, unleashing its chaos into our world.”
Jumanji: Open World hits theaters on Christmas Day, where it’ll be up against Dune and Avengers, hoping to carve out a true “family” niche for itself at a crowded-ass multiplex. Don’t count them out, though—these movies have a bad habit of overperforming their predicted grosses.
