Okay, we’re gonna get to the goods in a second or two, but we have to stop for a minute and reflect on how absurdly funny it is that Zach Cregger, formerly of the Whitest Kids U Know, took the Jordan Peele route. He hit it out of the park with Barbarian back in 2022, and has had his name attached to some shockingly good features like Companion since then (he’s already got a better batting average than Peele regarding producer credits). Now, he’s bringing the real heat: This 44-second trailer for Weapons, his latest picture, is better than most of the horror movies that you’re likely to see this year.
It’s just so effortlessly creepy and intriguing — all of the things you thought Hollywood marketing campaigns couldn’t do anymore. Warner Bros. knows they’ve got something incredible on their hands, and if it weren’t for the Predator: Badlands competition, you know that every person on the internet would be losing their minds over this. Anyhow, just fucking watch this as soon as you can get into a dark room with all the lights turned out.
Take a look:
Here’s an official synopsis for Weapons:
“From New Line Cinema and Zach Cregger, the wholly original mind behind ‘Barbarian,’ comes a new horror/thriller: ‘Weapons.’ When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance. The film stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, with Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.”
Weapons hits theaters on August 7. Don’t let that date confuse you: August might be Hot January, but this got moved up nearly six months to compete in this absurdly packed summer. So we’re pumped, and you should be, too.
