Victoria Canal, February 22
As 2024 winds to a close, Victoria Canal is getting a fast jump on 2025. The rising Spanish-American singer-songwriter, who was born in Germany but grew up in various spots around the world, is set to release debut album Slowly, It Dawns in January via Parlophone / Elektra. And a club tour of North America soon follows, as she brings her soulful indie sounds to Brighton Music Hall in Allston on February 22. The record follows a string of EPs, including 2022’s Elegy and last year’s WELL WELL, and it set up by an enchanting new single titled “15%”, where Canal confronts overthinking her words and actions in a state of existential dread. “I’m trying to be honest and unapologetic about what I want to put out there,” she says, “whether it’s wholesome, sexy, loud, quiet, if I’m being femme or masc; I don’t want to apologize for it.” The year ahead should be an exciting one, and this is a show deserving of attention in the early going of the year.
