See Tom Cruise run, fight, and crash the Olympics in ‘Mission: Impossible 8’

It may feel like a decade ago at this point, but the Olympics did happen this past summer, and Tom Cruise was on hand to do some crazy shit. It’s actually pretty fucking awesome, even if the stunt isn’t, well, doing what he did in the last Mission: Impossible movie: It’s the handoff between host cities, with Paris passing the torch (literally) to Los Angeles, assisted by the magic of Hollywood. It’ll make you want to run through a concrete wall, and you should check it out before returning for your first look at the movie in which Cruise’s dive (or, rather, rappel) will be featured. Go ahead, we’ll wait.

Wasn’t that dope? Anyway, the Mission: Impossible movies are coming to a close, and Cruise wants to go out with a bang — which is why they decided to actually make an eighth movie as opposed to M:I7 Part Two. And thank god for that, as the last one had one of the worst titles we’ve seen in recent years. It’s now called Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, which sounds like a slasher flick more than a spy thriller with that subtitle. Paramount dropped the teaser for the movie on Monday, and, yeah, this seems like a whole lot of fun.

Take a look:

Here’s a synopsis:

“Our lives are the sum of our choices.”

Yep, that’s all she wrote. Here, we’ll try our hand at writing one instead:

“Who gives a fuck what this movie’s about? Are there people out there who really watch these things for the giant overarching story behind whatever is happening with the IMF? No, they’re not. You’re coming to the movies to see Tom Fuckin’ Cruise. This guy? He’s 60 years old. He’s crazy as fuck, and he will do anything — we mean anything — to ensure that your fifteen dollars is well-spent. Did you watch that closing ceremony? Yeah, you did. Know what he did? Yeah, you do. Well, now you get to see it with movie magic. Is it as cool as the motorcycle stunt from the last one? Well, you’ll just have to come out and see this shit to figure it out for yourself.”

See? How hard is that?

Anyway, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning hits theaters on May 23, 2025, which is exactly when Cruise seems to have the most magic at the box office — that’ll be nearly four years to the day after Top Gun: Maverick hit theaters.
