Think the days of fun film co-branded tie-ins are over and done with? Well, think again, buster, because Heretic Parfum has teamed up with Focus Features to release a new scent inspired by Robert Eggers’ upcoming remake of Nosferatu. Yes, you read that right. It’ll be available on Halloween, is not too expensive by perfume standards, and immediately made us extra curious when we got an email about it this morning, mainly because we kept thinking of scents for other Eggers movies. The Witch would smell like New England fall with a little bit of “cooked baby,” The Lighthouse would have notes of saltwater and mermaid blood, and The Northman would be just sweat and mead — no additives required.
Jokes aside, this looks pretty dope. Here’s the packaging:
Here are some choice quotes from the press release, with a little added commentary:
“Inspired by the film, the custom scent, also titled ‘Nosferatu,’ is a collaboration between Focus Features and perfumer Douglas Little. Through viewing the film, historical research, and time period understanding, Little was able to bring the essence of ‘Nosferatu’ into a fragrance while exploring the question: What does a vampire smell like?”
We guessed it smells like the Transylvanian equivalent of old-school alcohol-based Old Spice, but it seems we’re wrong:
“A scent as atmospheric as the film, the perfume transports the wearer into the dark spaces inhabited by Count Orlok himself. The Eau de macabre opens with top notes of lilac and ambrette seed that fall into a heart chord of violet, orris root and petrichor. The mysterious dry-down is woven around vegan ambergris and Oud absolute. Described as, cold, pale and pellucid, the fragrance evokes the uneasy chill of encountering an apparition.”
“Vegan ambergris” is exactly what we imagine Bill Skarsgard uses as a salad dressing.
“The cap of each 30ml bottle is engraved with Count Orlok’s sigil and comes packaged in an exquisite black coffret complete with printed fragrance notes and inspiration. This is a limited-edition release that is sure to be highly collectable for any cinephile, vampire enthusiast or lover of ‘Nosferatu.'”
So, if you’d like to smell like Count Orlok, Chocula, or the one from Sesame Street, this perfume is for you. It retails for $125 for a 30ml body and goes on sale on October 31 on Heretic’s website. Your goth situationship partner would love to react blankly to this as a Christmas gift, given when you see Nosferatu in theaters on December 25.
