TV Eyes: Liam Gallagher and John Squire hit ‘The Tonight Show’

The Tonight Show/NBC

England’s favorite collaborative sons Liam Gallagher and John Squire are in the States this week, performing live at the Brooklyn Paramount on Thursday (April 11) for a one-off gig. Those who can’t attend aren’t totally shut out from the magic, however, as the Oasis frontman and Stone Roses guitarist (we won’t say “former” in either space, since neither have been, or could ever be, replaced) crashed our television screens last night (April 9) to play The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The duo, backed fully, busted out a bluesy psychedelic number called “I’m A Wheel,” plucked from their eponymous March album. Gallagher sounds great, and Squire always delivers.

We hyped Gallagher and Squire’s inaugural single “Just Another Rainbow” back in January.

“I think John’s a top songwriter,” Gallagher said in a press release back then. “Everyone always bangs on about him as a guitarist, but he’s a top songwriter too, man, no two ways about it as far as I’m concerned. There’s not enough of his music out there, whether it’s with the Roses or himself. It’s good to see him back writing songs and fucking good ones. The melodies are mega and then the guitars are a given. But I think even when you take all the fucking guitars off, you can play the songs all on acoustic and they’ll all still blow your mind.”
