Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of MusicComedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.

Music: Buffalo Tom at The Paradise

One of our highlights of 2023 (so far!) was watching Buffalo Tom hold court out in the yard of Bellforge Arts Center a few weeks ago, and now the enduring Boston alt-rock band heads back to the clubs for a special performance this Saturday (December 2) at The Paradise Rock Club. Word on the street is Bill Janovitz, Chris Colbourn, and Tom Maginnis are not only headlining, but also opening up the show as well, performing a few “acoustic numbers,” according to Insta, before plugging in and rocking the eff out like they always do. A new Buffalo Tom album is on the way next year, so we’re likely to hear a few selections from that along with the songs that helped define our youth.

BUFFALO TOM WITH BUFFALO TOM :: Saturday, December 2 at The Paradise Rock Club, 967 Commonwealth Ave. in Boston, MA :: 7 p.m., 18-plus, $35 :: Event info :: Advance tickets

Comedy: Jimmy Cash at Kowloon Komedy

Look, we don’t need any excuses to head up to Saugus and spend the evening at Kowloon (hell, this writer got engaged there in 2017, placing the ring on a chicken finger in a flaming pu-pu platter), but a side dish of comedy sure sounds tasty this evening (December 1). As usual, Mic’d Up has the word: “Joining Frank Santorelli and Dave Lamb for a weekend along Rt. 1 only a week or so after a pre-Thanksgiving brawl put the local institution in the headlines, Jimmy Cash is readying to deliver a one-two combo that you’ll actually want to stick around to see unfold. Plus, Kowloon still reigns supreme when it comes to the food, so there’s an awful lot there to keep you seated for the whole show.” Fire up a scorpion bowl and get laughing.

KOWLOON KOMEDY :: Friday, December 1 at Kowloon, 948 Broadway in Saugus, MA :: 8 p.m., 18-plus, $20 :: Event info and tickets

Film/TV: ‘Home Alone’ at Moxy’s Merry Movie Nights

When does the holiday season start for most folx? Is it the day after Thanksgiving? Right here on December 1? Or when we all first sit down to watch a holiday film, whether it’s Die Hard or this year’s Hallmark headliner Checkin’ It Twice? If things truly begin with the films that deliver the holiday spirit, The Moxy has it covered, as the Theater District hotel’s Moxy’s Merry Movie Nights kicks off Sunday (December 3) with a free rooftop screening of Home Alone. “Join us on the rooftop for a magical blend of holiday movies, mouth-watering cocktails, and the unforgettable ambience of Boston’s winter skyline,” writes Moxy. “Make your Sundays special this December with Moxy’s Merry Movie Nights — where every screening is a sprinkle of holiday joy!” Count us in.
